Hip 803 $2 Million Not This Time Colt Keeneland September Yearling Sale 9.17
LEXINGTON, KY — Keeneland September wrapped up a remarkable first week Thursday, reaching $318.1 million in gross sales while establishing a new record with 65 yearlings selling for $1 million or more through the first four sessions.
Through Books 1 and 2, Keeneland reported $318.1 million in gross sales for 633 yearlings, a 3.41% increase over the comparable period in 2025. The average climbed 9.61% to $502,551, while the median increased to $360,000.
The week’s highest-priced yearling remains the $3.7 million Into Mischief colt purchased Tuesday by M.V. Magnier and Peter Brant’s White Birch Farm.
Three colts reach $2 million on Thursday
Session 4 produced three separate $2 million purchases, led by two sons of Not This Time and a colt by Nyquist.
Trainer Chad Summers, acting as agent for Al Gold’s Gold Square, paid $2 million for a Not This Time colt consigned by Glennwood Farm. The colt is the first foal out of the Curlin mare Spell On You, a half-sister to Triple Crown winner Justify.
A second son of Not This Time reached the same price when Speedway Stable purchased a colt out of 2012 Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Believe You Can. The yearling, consigned by Airdrie Stud Raised and Offered, is a half-brother to Grade 2 winner Conclude.
The third $2 million yearling was a Nyquist colt acquired by the partnership of St. Elias, West Point, Lane’s End Racing and Belladonna. Consigned by Betz Thoroughbreds, the colt is a half-brother to stakes winner and Grade 3-placed Light Won Up.

That partnership finished Week 1 as Keeneland September’s leading buyer, acquiring 16 yearlings for $13.925 million.
Seven-figure demand continues
Thursday alone produced 10 million-dollar yearlings, surpassing the previous Session 4 record of six.
Other major transactions included a $1.65 million Not This Time colt, a $1.5 million Gun Runner filly, two yearlings at $1.6 million each, and three additional horses reaching the $1 million mark.
For the session, 216 horses sold through the ring for $77.18 million, with an average of $357,315 — up 7.08% — and a median of $285,000, up 3.64%.
Taylor Made Sales Agency completed Week 1 as the leading consignor with $46.545 million in sales from 92 yearlings, while Gun Runner led all sires with 42 yearlings generating $37.79 million and averaging nearly $900,000.
Keeneland Vice President of Sales Tony Lacy described demand for elite prospects as extremely strong, pointing to the record 65 seven-figure yearlings as evidence of buyers’ continued focus on top-quality horses.
Keeneland September resumes Saturday
Friday will be a dark day with no horses going through the ring.
The September Sale returns Saturday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. ET with the beginning of Book 3 and continues daily through Saturday, Sept. 26.
