Resolute Racing and Miller Racing’s In Our Time commanded through every point of call and never looked back en route to victory Saturday’s Grade 1, $1.75 million Never Say Die Ladies Sprint going 6 ½ furlongs at Kentucky Downs.
Trained by Saffie Joseph, Jr., the 5-year-old mare returned to Kentucky Downs one year following a 2025 meet which included a third-place finish in the Grade 3 Ladies Turf and a victory in an allowance optional claimer going the 6 ½-furlong distance. A winner of the Grade 2 Giant’s Causeway at Keeneland three starts back, she entered Saturday’s event from a third behind returning rivals Movin On Up and Zeitlos in the Grade 2 Caress on July 11 at Saratoga.
Emerging from post 8 under Micah Husbands, In Our Time led through opening fractions of 22.79 and 45.39 over the firm turf with the two-time defending winner and favorite Ag Bullet tracking to her outside in second. At the top of the stretch, In Our Time extended her advantage and drew off to a 3 ½-length triumph. Graded stakes-winner Time To Dazzle finished second a nose ahead of Graded stakes-winner and Grade 1-placed Jody’s Pride.
Completing the order of finish were Sayidah Dariyan, Vina Arana, Spirited Boss, Movin On Up, Ag Bullet, Love Cervere, and Zeitlos. Buttercream Babe and Cloe were scratched.
Husbands discussed how he and Joseph, Jr. spoke prior to the race.
“He said ‘Don’t try to change anything up’, and if she broke sharp and no one wanted the lead to just go for it,” Husbands said. “There wasn’t anyone with as much speed as us, so I just let her cruise and tried to take a long hold and not grab at her head. She was just cruising.”
The win was a third Grade 1 conquest this season for the Husbands-Joseph, Jr. jockey-trainer combo. They teamed up to win the Grade 1 Apple Blossom in April at Oaklawn Park with Claret Beret, before scoring with Eunomia in the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch at Del Mar earlier this month.
“He’s a great guy, he’s always looked out for me. He taught me a lot. Without him, this wouldn’t be possible,” Husbands said.
In Our Time became racing’s newest millionaire, earning $1,026,813 from her victory, over doubling her bankroll to $1,993,305. Her record now stands at 20-6-6-3.
In Our Time gave North America’s leading sire Not This Time his lifetime 14th Grade 1-winner, and fourth Grade 1-winner in 2026. Additionally, Not This Time sired the 1-2 finishers of the Ladies Sprint with Time to Dazzle also being a daughter of the Taylor Made Farm stallion.
Bred in Kentucky by Brian Kahn, In Our Time was a $325,000 purchase at the 2022 Keeneland September Sale. She is out of the Cactus Ridge mare Laura’s Pleasure, who also produced Important Mission–a stakes-winning sprinter in the Middle East.
