The outstanding jockey Edgard Zayas accumulated the necessary points to finish as the leader and claim victory in the Jockey Challenge held this Tuesday, Three Kings Day, at the Camarero racetrack.
The competition featured nine Puerto Rican jockeys who are prominent in the United States and who were invited by the racetrack management to participate in the special racing day’s activities.
Zayas won the fourth race, which kicked off the competition, aboard Zalamera Baby Boy and accumulated points throughout the remaining three races, finishing with 29 points. He was followed by Manuel Franco, who came in second with 25 points.
Franco won the ninth race of the day aboard the filly Jaranera. Juan Carlos Díaz finished in third place with 19 points after winning the tenth and final race of the day, which concluded the competition.
Rounding out the list of participants, from fourth place onwards, were Edwin Castro with 15 points, Ramón Vázquez (14), José Luis Ortiz (12), Edwin Maldonado (11), Jorge Vargas, Jr. (10), Jaime A. Torres (7), Jesús Manuel Ríos (4), Javier Santiago (4), and Edwin González (2).
“Greetings to all the fans who showed up today. It was truly a beautiful spectacle, and thank you to the entire team that made all of this possible. This is something that should be repeated,” Zayas said during the awards ceremony.
